The following is a quote from this article:
“The statistics supporting the animal abuse to other crimes connection are overwhelming. For instance, in one twenty-year study, 70% of animal abusers committed other crimes, and 44% went on to harm people. In another recent study, 99% of animal abusers had convictions for other crimes, 100% of people who committed sexual homicide (like Jeffrey Dahmer) had abused animals, and 61.5% of animal abusers had assaulted a human as well. A 1997 study showed that when comparing 153 animal abusers to neighbors of similar age and gender, animal abusers were five times more likely to be arrested for violent crimes, three times more likely to commit drug-related crimes, even three times more likely to get traffic tickets.
“Many people already know that animal abusers go on to abuse others in their household. There are many statistics out there as well but to summarize, 80-90% of victims of domestic abuse state that their abuser started by abusing pets. Then, an additional vicious cycle often begins because the abused kids, at least 1/3 of the time, according to various studies, abuse animals themselves.”
But we legalize some, and consider others crimes? That is madness…
Particularly interesting is the fact that 100% of “sexual” sadist murderers are also into animal torture. The implications of connecting that fact to the sorts of people society considers “necessary” for our survival…as in slaughter workers, vivisectors, etc., are extremely disturbing. People want to deny society’s fostering of this ruthlessness and blood-thirst…this severe mental disease which chronically infects our species…so deny it they do, and fiercely. Since to admit the truth here would mean admitting to serious and dumbfounding mistakes made by “the greatest species ever,” and working towards a whole new way of life, reconsidering our place in it, and making profound changes in order to be worthy of our title: Human.
Of course, violent crimes including murder, rape, child abuse, domestic abuse, etc., increase dramatically in the vicinity of slaughterhouses and among other communities involved in legalized animal abuse. Slapping a label of legality on what we know is absolutely wrong does nothing to make such workers any less mentally/emotionally disturbed and dangerous…may even make them more so by the disgustingly cruel things they’re paid to do, and by their realizing the severe hypocrisy of the situation.
Just one of many cases in point, briefly, of a murderer who (illegally) tortured animals:
One such sexual fetishist and sadistic murder who honed his skills on animals as a child by hanging dogs and cats in a barn: Dennis Rader, the Bind-Torture-Kill (BTK) killer who indulged in his sadistic murder spree from 1974 to 1991, killing 10 people in the worst, most agonizing ways possible; families with children, women, men…it didn’t matter to him…they all turned him on.
I don’t want to be too “graphic” here, but you can read all about Rader here: http://criminalminds.wikia.com/wiki/Dennis_Rader
I did a YouTube video several years ago on all this; here it is:
So where do we go from here? If I had a say in it…
All of humanity would stop the vicious backlash against veganism and all things related to animal liberation. They’d quickly realize just how wrong they’ve been, as all of us who’ve made the change have realized. No, we’re not perfect and don’t claim to be better than other people in every way…but just in this way, by being vegan and also opposed to all forms of animal exploitation, use, and killing. Other people may be vastly better than us in other areas of life, and I for one can readily admit that. We are human beings, after all, and entirely capable of inventing and utilizing any ways of living that we want.
Which brings us to cultured or lab-grown meat as one possible solution to these problems (REVISED 2/10/2017)…
http://www.new-harvest.org is one of several organizations working on ways to arrive at this far better, much less violent, more loving and peaceful world we all want. But there are problems there as well, since animal exploiters may also be employed in this field. So beware of who you might support. Plant-based replacements for animal products are a far better and easier way (and we already have them, for decades); but since the vast majority of people still reject such vegan products, the “cultured meat” endeavor might still be a viable way to at least get slaughterhouses permanently done away with at some point in the (hopefully near) future. We wait and observe.
Why this obsession with people like me?
We want to go to sleep happily at night knowing humanity is on its way to truly loving each other and animals, and thereby on its way to true and lasting peace and a dramatically safer world. We don’t want to live in a world where children (and other innocent/helpless lives) are snatched from their lives to be tortured and murdered. We want all people to have compassion and empathy, and for the murderous hatred harbored by so many to be only a shameful, fading, old memory, represented by the abandoned slaughterhouse above. We want to wake up in the morning realizing that’s really happening, it wasn’t just a dream…as it is now only a dream. And when awakened to reality, again, it feels like a wrecking ball.
